Caye Caulker is a small limestone coral island off the coast of Belize in the Caribbean Sea measuring about 5 miles (8.0 km) (north to south) by less than 1 mile (1.6 km) (east to west). The town on the island is known by the name Caye Caulker Village. The population of Caye Caulker is approximately 2,000 people today and still growing.

Caye Caulker is located approximately 20 miles (32 km) north-northeast of Belize City, and is accessible by high-speed water taxi or small plane. In recent years, the island has become a popular destination for backpackers and other tourists. There are over 50 hotels and several restaurants and shops.

Getting to Caye Caulker

There are two options to get to the island....

Water Taxi

This is a 25 minute drive. Boats leave almost hourly from Belize city to Caye Caulker – the first boat leaves the city at 8:00am and the last one leaves at 5:30pm. The boat ride from the city to the island is about 50 minutes and the price is US$20 for a round trip ticket and US$15 for a one way ticket.

Airplane

A faster option is flying to the island from the Philip Goldson International Airport to the island on a local airline.

The flight is only about 15 minutes long and the cost is US$158 for a round trip ticket or US$90 for a one way ticket.
